Govt to invest Rs. 5,500 crore in Assam, NE to improve telecom infrastructure

The Central government will invest 5,500 crore rupees in Assam and other North Eastern states in telecom infrastructure in the next two years. “Much thrust has been given to improve the telecom scenario in North East,” Telecom Secretary J S Deepak said in Guwahati.
He said that by the end of next year all Gram Panchayat of the country will be connected through optical fibre network. Mr Deepak further said that North East is likely to achieve it ahead of other states.
He pointed that data flow was no constraint in the region as the optic fibre network through the chicken neck corridor through Siliguri has been supplemented with the internet gateway through Bangladesh.
He said that Department of Telecom and BSNL has given stress to work together with state government to speed out connectivity projects
