Remembering Musical Legend Jayanta Hazarika on His 39th Death Anniversary


The state paid rich tributes to legendary musician Late Jayanta Hazarika on his 39th death anniversary.Jayanta Kazarika was born on the 20th September 1943 in Mangaldoi and left for heavenly abode on 15th October 1977. Popularly known as Rana-da, Jayanta Hazarika was the youngest brother of Bhupen Hazarika. He started his musical career accompanying his brother and later made his name as singer and composer on his own right. Jayanta was the first Assamese composer to fuse western musical forms such as rock and roll, jazz and Western Classical with traditional Assamese melodies and created a new sound. He was a pioneer in introducing several western instruments in his compositions.Born in a musical family of Assam,he was the yuoungest among the 10 children of father Nilakanta Hazarika and mother Shantipriya Hazarika.
