The Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) has decided not to contest the by-elections. BJP and AGP will jointly fight the coming by-polls in the state to be held on November 19.
AGP president Atul Bora said, “We have decided to contest the coming by-polls together.”
By-polls to these two constituencies have been necessitated due to resignations by Sarbananda Sonowal as Lakhimpur MP and Mansing Rongpi as Baithalangshu MLA.
Retaining the Lakhimpur seat will be a prestige issue for the BJP as it was the constituency of the chief minister.
On the other hand, the Congress is desperate to put its house in order under new PCC president Ripun Bora. The party is likely to harp on the Narendra Modi Government’s failure, rise in prices of essential commodities and closer home, the withdrawal of the special category status and the 90:10 funding pattern scheme and lukewarm response to the State Government’s appeal for additional funds in the aftermath of the recent devastating floods.[Source ::Pratidin Times ]
