Stray violence mars AAMSU Assam bandh

Several persons were injured and vehicles damaged during the 12-hour Assam bandh called by All Assam Minority Students Union (AAMSU) on Tuesday.

AAMSU termed the eviction drive in Kaziranga inhuman and called for a bandh across the state in protest.

Violent protests by bandh supporters and scuffles with general public as well as security forces resulted in tense situations at Kokrajhar, Nalbari, Chirang, Jogighopa, Juria, Jagiroad and some other places.

AAMSU activists tried to block highways at several places by burning tyres. Several passenger vehicles were damaged in stone pelting by the protesters.

Security has been tightened across the state following the bandh called by the organization.
